Projects
McAlister Road/Dayton School Road
Project Name
McAlister Road/Dayton School Road
Location
Easley, South Carolina
Owner
South Carolina Department of Transportation and Pickens County Transportation Committee
Project Details
The McAlister Road and Dayton School Road project, part of the Pickens County CTC project, was successfully completed by King Asphalt in 2023. This project involved the construction of a 1.5-mile adjoining road, requiring effective communication and collaboration due to its proximity to a local elementary school and a large church complex.
Coordinating operations with the elementary school was crucial, as drop-offs and pick-ups of students needed to be efficiently managed throughout the project. Additionally, the presence of the church complex, which hosted daily activities and several funeral services during the project’s timeline, required careful coordination to minimize disruptions.
The project scope encompassed several key elements, including milling the existing asphalt pavement by 2 inches, implementing an 8-inch cement-modified recycled base (CMRB) using Curing Method B, and conducting 8-inch full-depth patching in the mill and fill section. Profile milling for CMRB was also carried out to ensure a smooth and consistent surface.
To complete the road, two lifts of asphalt were applied, including Intermediate B and Surface B. Fast-dry and thermoplastic striping were utilized, incorporating school zone markings and delineating multiple intersections. The project also involved the construction of two signalized intersections, along with concrete sidewalks and drive aprons.
Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the workforce and subcontractors involved, the project was successfully completed ahead of schedule and under budget. This achievement highlights King Asphalt’s commitment to delivering high-quality projects efficiently and cost-effectively.
